On the evening of May 24, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council attended a China-Indonesia business community dinner in Jakarta alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and delivered remarks. Approximately 200 representatives from the business communities of both countries participated. Chen Lei, Chairwoman and President of Tongkun Group Co., Ltd., attended the dinner as a representative of Chinese entrepreneurs, listened to Premier Li Qiang's keynote speech, and participated in related events hosted by Indonesia on May 25 local time.

Remarks by the Leaders of China and Indonesia

Premier Li Qiang stated that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, as well as the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. We must align with the historical trend of progress, uphold the principles of seeking common ground while reserving differences and peaceful coexistence, resolve disputes through consultation, promote win-win outcomes through cooperation, and achieve shared development and prosperity.

 

Li Qiang emphasized that China is vigorously advancing the high-end, intelligent, and green transformation of its manufacturing sector while expanding overseas investment in an orderly manner. China will work with all countries to enhance the level and efficiency of industrial and supply chains. China is willing to share its growth opportunities and development prospects with all countries, including Indonesia. We will unwaveringly expand our opening-up and create a better environment for foreign enterprises to invest and operate in China. We hope that the business communities of China and Indonesia will strengthen their engagement, take proactive actions, expand the scope of cooperation, deepen industrial integration, uphold free trade, and foster more fruitful cooperation across various fields between our two countries.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia's relationship with China is one of the most strategic and promising bilateral partnerships of the 21st century. Indonesia is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as trade, industry, green economy, science and education, while enhancing people-to-people exchanges to better achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. He welcomed Chinese enterprises to continue investing and doing business in Indonesia, expanding cooperation across various fields. Indonesia highly appreciates China's significant role in international affairs and is willing to work with China to uphold the Bandung Spirit, safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asian region, protect the common interests of developing countries, and uphold international fairness and justice.

Looking Back at History

 

During his tenure as Deputy Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Zhejiang Province, Premier Li Qiang emphasized that Zhejiang should strive to be a pioneer in the Belt and Road Initiative. He encouraged Zhejiang enterprises to identify their niche, leverage their strengths, and actively participate in and promote the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

In July 2014, during his inspection visit to Tongkun Group, he first proposed encouraging private enterprises to enter the upstream refining and petrochemical industry, marking the beginning of Tongkun's participation in the construction of Zhejiang Petrochemical's 40-million-ton-per-year integrated refining and petrochemical project. In May 2016, Premier Li Qiang (then Deputy Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor) personally inspected Zhejiang Petrochemical.

On September 5, 2023, during his visit to Indonesia, Premier Li Qiang attended the China-Indonesia Business Dinner held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on the evening of September 5 and delivered a speech. Chen Shiliang, Chairman of Tongkun Holding Group, was invited to attend the dinner as a representative of Chinese entrepreneurs and shook hands with the Premier.

During this visit, Chairwoman Chen Lei also attended the China Exim Bank Indonesia Bank-Enterprise Symposium held on May 24 local time. She reported on Tongkun's development overview and highlighted the company's planned investment projects in Indonesia.

 

In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Indonesia, bilateral cooperation has continuously reached new heights. Trade volume has expanded while quality has improved, two-way investment has grown rapidly, and major projects have yielded significant results. The bonds of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries have grown ever stronger, bringing tangible benefits to enterprises and people in both nations and injecting greater certainty into the global economy.

 

Marking the new starting point of the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, Tongkun looks ahead to the future with determination. We will strive to build a strategic hub for Chinese refining and chemical enterprises in the ASEAN region, working together to compose a chapter of mutual benefit in the era of the blue economy!
